Style Gazer is a new monthly feature where I will be taking a look at some of the most stylish outfits on Instagram over the last month, to give you inspiration on how to wear what you already own or to potentially invest in.
I’m delighted to be back with Lizzie Parsons, a stylish friend of mine and a huge fan of my Loved By Lizzi blog – Lizzie has over 15 years experience styling and so I am so pleased she agreed to take part and give you some of her thoughts on what we are seeing on the highstreet.
Look 1
Lizzi Richardson: Vanessa has great style and one of the most colourful instagrammers on my feed! My love of lilac drew me to this outfit, but it was also the new balloon leg-shape that we are seeing in jeans, it’s the modern 80s take on a high-waist comfy leg jeans which are all over the highstreet.
I just love how Vanessa has tied this high-low dressing and completely agree with you Lizzie on some fab strappy sandals and gold chunky jewellery – this look is so easy for ladies to copy.
Lizzie Parsons: Vanessa is clearly stylish, and I appreciate the humour and a dose of real life that she brings to her captions on Instagram. Authentic, relatable, funny and well turned out. You can’t not love Vanessa.
A stunning look I am so inspired by. The lilac jacket with the pink lip has me wanting to copy it straight away. The humble yet impactful white t-shirt with the same coloured strappy sandals is divine, again it is another hi-low look. The high-waisted stone wash jeans, again turned up at the hem look wonderful. The gold necklace and tan bag are perfect finishes to the outfit.
Look 2
Lizzi Richardson: I absolutely love this style of summer dress; Claire and I share a similar desire to own the modern linen Atlanta by Sleeper! (One day…) The square neckline and the puff sleeves are statement features this summer and a style of dress that can be worn anywhere – it’s so versatile.
I love how Claire has styled these with high wedges in a neutral tone; that or espadrilles will keep this gorgeous floral dress the statement piece. One I bet she can’t wait to show off when we can venture out more!
Lizzie Parsons: Ah, THE Mango dress, a dress for Summer 2020 without a doubt. I love that Claire has styled the dress in keeping with its essence; the jewellery is a neutral colour palette and I love the large metal bangle. The sandals are naturally woven and blend harmoniously with the dress. The dress is 100% organic cotton. Floral print. Gathered section on the upper section. Square neckline. Puffed three quarter sleeves. Flared hem. It is part of Mango’s sustainable line and a look we are seeing everywhere.
From Claire’s Instagram squares I can see that she comes alive in dresses, and I love the vast array of colours that she wears.
Look 3
Lizzi Richardson: I selected Hayley’s stylish outfit because of the sequins. I love a bit of sparkle in the summer and they shouldn’t just be saved for party season. Nor should they be saved just for the evening.
I love this day look Hayley has created using her champagne sequin top with white jeans and by adding light suede boots, it just makes it work for day – I’m not sure trainers would have had the same ‘stylish’ impact. I agree with you Lizzie, by showing off a little skin just above the boots along with the sunnies, this whole looks creates a truly desirable summer look – again one that ladies can easily copy.
Lizzie Parsons: Hayley clearly loves clothes and has a great eye. This is a wonderful example of a well styled tone on tone look. The high-low pairing of the sequin balloon sleeved top from River Island (sold out) and the M&S white jeans, with those gorgeous pointed ankle boots! Notice how Hayley has turned up the hem of the jeans to show off a bit of lower shin and upper ankle! The silver bag compliments the silver sequin top – which I know looks champagne coloured here. The silver jewellery and sunglasses complete the outfit.
Look 4
Lizzi Richardson: Kimono style or Dress over jeans – whatever name you want give it, it’s such a super stylish look! The attention to details that you’ve highlighted Lizzie, you can see that Isabel has really taken her time to get the details right. Once you learn all these little tricks you can go on and use them again on other outfits.
Isabel was right here to button up the top-part of the dress, as it fits her so well, it enhances her waistline perfectly. If the dress you pick cannot do that, I recommend to wear it open with a cami underneath. I never tire of leopard print, and with the red lippy and nude sandals this really makes the whole look WOW for me.
Lizzie Parsons: An outstanding look. The first thing that struck me about this dress over jeans look is how well it is styled. Do you see the rolled sleeves? The folded part sitting just below the elbow. The fact that the dress is buttoned to where the jeans sit on Isabel’s waist? Then the dress flares out unbuttoned showing the distressed and ripped denim. Notice the red lip, which I feel, always goes so well with leopard print. The ripped jeans looking elevated with the strappy sandal, dress and make up. See how the strappy sandals are within the same colour palette as the dress.
The look speaks for itself with minimal jewellery. Plus Isabel is shopping her wardrobe here, showing that many of us needn’t buy new, but shop our wardrobe instead.
Look 5
Lizzi Richardson: The leather, the colours, the colour-blocking – Gina’s style is unbelievable! It’s a good job she lives in the USA, because I would be raiding her wardrobe and pleading her to adopt me as a sister! Gina’s instagram account is one of my favourites, and I knew I wanted to feature Gina on Style Gazer but was struggling to pick just the one outfit!
I chose this look, as leather real or faux will be big this Spring/Summer and they can be much higher in price than cotton or linen garments. Gina demonstrates here that you can make a leather coat look like a dress, by styling it here with trousers – it’s a versatile piece she can wear over more than one season.
I love wide leg trousers, I’m just not sure they love me as much – but Gina really is showcasing Hepburn vibes with this look, and she’s the first instagrammer I’ve seen that has made sunglass chains work!
Lizzie Parsons: Gina has impeccable style in spades. She is my new favourite person to follow on Instagram for outfit inspiration. She is an exceptional dresser and a great person to look to for brand suggestions, case in point the House of Sunny coat dress pictured, and the yellow trousers by Alice and Olivia.
The whole look here is perfection. Again the coat dress is buttoned to where the trousers start, the sunglasses chain is the same colour as the coat dress, the flared trousers are the same colour as the sandals. The look is sharp, tailored, sophisticated and fun.
