Who better to teach petite styling for petite women than 5 ft 2, Dannii Minogue – she’s opened my eyes to petite style, here’s why!
I never really thought of myself as petite and technically I am not, however after getting the ultimate masterclass in petite styling for petite women, it’s certainly made me think more about investing in a petite option when the regular size doesn’t quite fit right.
Dannii Minogue was taught by her grandmother to sew because she knew her short granddaughters were going to need this skill, Dannii is 5ft 2 and Kylie is 5ft. Given the fact that many global fashion brands simply do not cater for the petite woman.
Dannii first started designing fashion at 17 years old, however the Dannii Minogue Petites label launched 9 years ago. Keen to take it to the UK after launching in Australia and USA, Dannii has collaborated with QVC UK since 2019 and her brand is going from strength to strength – with more and more staple pieces being added with every new season collection.
WHO IS PETITE?
A question that Dannii gets asked a lot. Simple answer is – 5ft 3 and under. However, it’s not as simple as that!
One of the big learnings for me today at the masterclass was it may not be all of your body that requires petite. Take me, for example, I know I have long legs for my 5ft 6 (and a half) height but my torso is shorter in comparison (for me). Plus I know I have shorter arms – here is where QVC UK and Dannii Minogue have taken petite styling for petite women to that next level; they know regular sizing in the same garments were just as important – the need to mix & match to get the right fit for YOU – because we are all unique!
THE PASSION FOR PETITE STYLE
The passion is there, trust me! When you are investing in Dannii Minogue Petites, every single element of design and fit has been approved by her.
After explaining how shopping with her friends was never any fun or just having the one petite dress to buy from a brand which she is expected to wear to every single event for the season – Dannii knew this needed to change.
The message was clear from Dannii herself today; QVC UK design Dannii Minogue Petites for petite women first, and then the regular collection follows; this is not how petite ranges are typically designed by other fashion labels.
It was interesting to hear, how brands design regular sizing first and then cut a few inches off for petite women or leave more fabric on for tall women, not caring how the item will fit the rest of the body in proportion.
CAN YOU SPOT THE DIFFERENCE?
I appreciate this is not the best photo, but I really wanted to include this in the blogpost – here you can clearly see how a regular size blazer fits a petite woman; Dannii is 5 ft 2 and in image B you can see that her sleeves fit better (on the wrist), the length stops at a more flattering point on her hips. Her shoulders fit into the shoulder pads and the petite blazer nips in and defines her waist.
If you are 5ft 3 and under and you constantly have to get clothes altered, it’s worth investing in petite clothes made for petite women! It will save you so much money and you will look better dressed.
WHY PETITE STYLE MATTERS!
Because what you wear matters – especially if you are petite in size.
