I don’t know where times flies, but three years have passed since I took the plunge and opted for a fringe; sounds like a big leap and it was, because I decided to go for the deep V instead of my usual ‘fine’ fringe that if you don’t like it after a few weeks you can easily sweep it to one side and quickly grow it out.
This time, I made the commitment and went for the heavy, deeper style which meant there was no running away from it. And three years on, whilst occasionally I’m bored with it – I still love it just as much.
If you are thinking of taking the leap, here’s what you need to know!
TAKE THE LEAP TO THE DEEP V FRINGE
I found when you mentioned the word fringe to any hairdresser, they immediately suggest the lighter finer more oblong style; I think this is because if you don’t like it they can easily ‘fix’ the situation within 6-8 weeks and before you know it you are back to your old hair style. I made this mistake many times over and wished I had taken the leap to the deeper V, long before I did.
If you have that ‘cool rock chick’ style in your head or anything close to wishing it was more ‘Claudia‘ you have to go for the deeper fringe.
YOUR FRINGE WILL NEED DAILY STYLING
Even if I am away for one night, I have to take my hairdryer with me, just for the fringe! LOL 🙂 (You should hear how my hubby moans). A simple brush through will not work I’m afraid, it will need a little attention every morning (and possibly too again if you are heading out-out of an evening).
YOU DON’T NEED TO WASH YOUR ALL YOU HAIR EVERY DAY
Since having this new style I have washed my hair a lot less; which is fantastic news for my fine hair. Daily washing was really taking it’s toll and now whether I wear my hair up or down, just as long as my fringe is fresh… the rest can have a little break.
A FRINGE SUITS CURLY OR STRAIGHT HAIRSTYLES
Since having a fringe I seem to embrace my natural curls a little more, because the fringe frames my face it doesn’t matter if my hair is not completely straight. Without the fringe my hair use to look really untidy as soon as you spotted a kink, much less so now with a fringe.
I SEEM TO NOTICE MY ROOTS A LOT LESS
Without my old middle parting, I completely forget about my roots, I actually think it helps the look of the deep V to have darker roots.
NO NEED FOR BOTOX
Before getting the fringe I was really contemplating botox; you see I have too deep lines between my eyebrows. One reason I didn’t want to do botox is that I share this ‘ugly’ feature with my late-father and I felt a little like I would lose a piece of him if I got rid of mine.
I also know if I started there with botox, it wouldn’t take me long to be trying everywhere else I spotted a line I didn’t like. Since having the fringe, I rarely notice these two lines that I was so transfixed on for years!
I DON’T PANIC OVER MY EYEBROW MAINTENANCE
I love eyebrows, I think there are one of the prettiest elements on a woman’s face. Before my fringe if there was one hair out of place I was in the threading chair before anyone else could spot it.
With a deep fringe, I am so much more chilled out about it, and whilst I still dislike them misshapen, it’s amazing what a fringe can cover!
TAKE YOUR TIME TO GET YOUR OWN SHAPE
It’s really unlikely that the first fringe cut will be the ultimate shape for you; it takes a good few cuts to see where the fringe should end on your own face – Should yours be above or below your eyebrows? (I look better with mine covering my brows a little).
Should you go fairly blunt or have it cut into? (Mine is cut into, as blunt does’t suit my face). I also have mine shaped around my face so it curves at each end because I have a rounded face, this is unlikely to look good if you have a square or angular face shape.
So take your time, don’t panic on your first attempt – You and your fringe will need time to become good friends!
THE ONLY NEGATIVE I’VE FOUND
Hats – I used to love wearing them all the time. Hats and fringes don’t get on, well definitely not on the deeper kind. I do miss them and only wear them when I know I can quickly restyle as soon as I take the hat off.
