GETTING CURIOUS: VITAMIN INFUSION THERAPY

A new feature that I am introducing on lovedbylizzi.com and across my social media, is GETTING CURIOUS.

This wellness campaign is response to a survey I did with my subscribers in 2023; the appetite was strong for investigating and learning about alternative solutions to help support body, mind and general lifestyle for women over 40 who are experiencing perimenopause symptoms.

I am on a personal journey myself to embrace this stage of my life and I am keen to explore and try new methods available to me as part of a new approach I’m embracing towards my own holistic wellness lifestyle.

I’m kicking off January 2024 with a boost, literally! The first wellness therapy I’ve been exploring is intravenous vitamin infusion therapy, near my home town in the Home Counties.

Kerry from IV Boost UK Berkhamsted clinic with Lizzi Richardson

MEET KERRY FROM IV BOOST BERKHAMSTED

Kerry is a Nurse Practitioner for IV Boost at the sister clinic in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire; to offer treatments out of the city, into the Home Counties that have proved popular at the London clinic.

As a blogger living in Buckinghamshire I am always keen to explore services that are local to me before embarking on a London city find!

IV Boost clinics offer multiple services, however I was particularly curious about their intravenous infusion therapy; which is a cocktail mix of vitamins to boost your wellbeing depending on what you are keen to improve.

Kerry’s philosophy of both her business and her own personal wellbeing journey is “Adding life to your years, not years to your life!”  As a keen biohacker, she truly believes in looking after the inside of you, just as much as as the outside of you, because it matters – it’s the key to longevity and energy.

THE CONSULTATION

What appealed to me instantly about this clinic, you just can’t rock on up and have a session ‘in the moment’ – IV Boost Berkhamsted start all their clients, new and existing, with a consultation to understand what exactly you wish to improve and the why behind it. Then she talks you through what will happen in your session on the day and organise a date to book in.

Between the consultation and your booked session, you will need to complete a medical survey disclosing health details you currently have now and in the past – the survey is then reviewed and approved by the founder of IV Boost UK, Dr Joshua Berkowitz, prior to your session going ahead.

THE VITAMIN INFUSION THERAPY

For my own treatment, I asked Kerry to consider a mix that would be hydrating, energy-boosting and to get a skip back into my step after a full on month of December festive celebrations and a good dose of flu that I was in week three of trying to recover from.

The intravenous infusion therapy Kerry selected for me, was the ‘entry’ level booster; it’s typically known as MYERS COCKTAIL IV originally launched in the USA in the 1960’s by Dr John Myers himself, it’s the standard cocktail mix within this type of therapy.

Kerry added a Biotin shot to this, to aid the hair thinning conversation I had within my consultation, which is one of many premenopausal symptoms I’m personally experiencing. No amount of shampoo, conditioner or hair treatments is resolving this for me, just masking the issue, unsatisfactory.

ON THE DAY

Ahead of my appointment I had to drink plenty of water to help assist with getting the needle in easier and I wore comfy clothing to help relax and have a top that would be easy during the session to roll up.

Kerry started by confirming all the points we had discussed in our initial consultation, checked on how I was feeling that morning. Confirmed to me that my medical survey had been reviewed and that they were happy to proceed.

Kerry mixed up the cocktail directly in front of me; this increased my reassurance of IV Boost Berkhamsted clinic on quality of service, as I would not have been keen on a premix bag just presented to me from a cupboard! As each element went into the mix, Kerry was describing the benefits I should receive from each one.

Once we were all good with the intravenous application, Kerry then took my blood pressure to check I was okay and then the intravenous infusion therapy started – it varies by individual, my session took around 20-25 minutes.

At the end of the session, Kerry continued to explain ‘how’ I would feel over the next few days, she took my blood pressure again (which was fine) and advised that this boost would approx to two weeks.

Kerry’s philosophy of both her business and her own personal wellbeing journey is “Adding life to your years, not years to your life!”

MY ‘GETTING CURIOUS’ RESULTS

I had been curious about intravenous infusion therapy for a couple of years now, and had only seen them really offered in London; so I was pleased I could have my first session a little closer to home, yet still had a feeling that it was London quality rather than just any kind of set up.

The first 3 days after my session I really felt a boost of energy, my alertness was at all time high and I’ve been having really good sleep, feeling refreshed when I wake up.

My head is clear of the lingering flu, especially my upper respiratory, I noticed that the following day. It’s not until something goes that you realise you have been putting up with it!

Most interestingly for me, is that my food cravings have stopped. I’m writing this on day 6 and I still haven’t had any snacking cravings, I’ve not lost my appetite, but I’m not feeling the need to snack all the time; Kerry tells me this is due to the hydration.  Which is signaling to me on-going, am I actually hungry or do I need to drink more?!

As for the biotin, well I am not going to notice that instantly – I’ve been taking a daily dose for just under a year now and seen positive improvements; I just hope this extra dose gives my cells that reproduce my hair, a much needed boost for their next day at the office!

Having experienced a session that was coming from a knowledgeable nurse practitioner with many years of experience behind her; I would now NOT consider a pop-up service of this kind or partake in a session with a group of girlfriend’s all having it together.

It’s a serious treatment that needs to be taken seriously.
