I’m a huge fan of British made and a huge fan of women enterprises – so when you add the two together, I can’t help myself but get involved.
King and Eye Crochet is a new venture set up at the beginning of 2017, after Newcastle born Claire who now lives in Stockport, decided to set up shop after crocheting for around three years. Her preference for chunky textured styles has made her source yarns from local mills in Lancashire, being local to them helps her maintain checks on the origins of her yarns used for her products.
Inspired by Claire’s designs on Instagram you can’t help but wonder what the products are like to touch and feel, and I thought it was very quirky how she used this technique to create one of my favourite types of bags, clutches.
Receiving my delivery, I was super excited by all the unwrapping… my clutch bag was wrapped in tissue paper with a decorative tie along with a card from Claire – that personal touch you simply do not get on the high street.
The modern twist with Claire’s designs are the chunky textured fibres she uses. The large black clutch that I am using here is so beautifully made, knowing that it’s been hand-crafted especially for you just adds a level of personalisation and whilst I know there are others out there too, I still feel like I am the only one that owns this bag.
The tassel on the front is removable, a great option to have if you want to change it at a later date. I personally love it and not only is it a great feature of the design, but you find you can’t help but play with it whilst you are waiting or on a phone call. Made from t-shirt yarn it has that lovely cotton feel you get with t-shirts and provides a texture that I have not come across before. I also feel that is got strength and I suspect it will not be long before I add one of my brooches to it on a night out, to add that extra level of personalisation that I like to do – and I kind of know already I am not going to ruin the fabric by doing so.

What I’m loving about this large black clutch bag
- I can get my large purse in it – no need for me to have to swap purses on a night out, which sometimes stops me from using a clutch
- It’s very tactile – this I think is a really important feature for a clutch bag as you could be holding it all evening. When you have a shoulder bag you have less interaction, but with a clutch if you don’t like the feel of it then you are not going to use it
- The uniqueness – I always love owning something different
- A great price-point at £29.95 plus shipping
- And not forgetting… British Made
Claire has other items in the range like home decor which are in her merino creations – Australian merino, the softest available, which can be created in all colours of the rainbow.
